Project Based Learning
Key takeaways that I want to start implementing immediately in my classroom
ConnectionsHow can I frame my lessons so that students can understand how the skills they are developing will help them beyond their academic career? By reflecting on this idea, I am redesigning my curriculum to share with students our "big idea" project of year vs. waiting until after instruction to "launch" the project. Backwards Design
Inquiry-Based
RubricsSigh, yes rubrics. Typically the bane of any project I create. My opinion of rubrics transformed from a simple checklist to a powerful learning tool that will help students develop their need to know charts and help challenge students to move beyond standard expectations. Critical Friends
Road-Maps
ReflectionWhile many of these tools were not new to me, what was new was how they were being used, and that provided many "ah ha" moments. I appreciated experiencing the training as "student" living the process as it helped me gain a much deeper understanding of how we learn and how to teach more effectively using projects.

Greetings from Beijing! Thank you for this post. I like the visible ideas in each of the stages. I am working with students on their individual passion projects and this have given me some great ideas on how to make their planning and thinking visible.

These are all excellent ideas and solid thinking. It require a lot of work at the front but can pay off with student engagement.

This is great - in particular, I like how you are using a rubric along the way instead of just at the end. I also hadn't thought of the Critical Friends Group concept as part of a PBL experience. Cool - thanks for sharing!

I like the 'critical friends' part. Of course, we could use three different colors of text within a Google Doc to do the same thing (and to easily / quickly see as a teacher that students have done what we required). Thanks for sharing.
